The Union Alliance of Political Parties (CUPP) ruled the sole Chief Executive of Rivers State Ibok-Ibok Ibas Deputy Administrator (Rtd.) as a political appointment, an illegal attack on the Nigerian constitution.
Naija News Ibas announced on Wednesday that it was immediately suspending all political holders and appointments across the state.
Kupp’s national secretary Peter Ameh responded to the development in an interview with the Pioneer on Thursday, accusing Ibas of pursuing a hidden agenda aimed at expanding his stay beyond his six-month mandate.
Ameh questioned why Ibas, who was appointed to the interim role, would make far-reaching decisions, including firing political appointments and new appointments.
He asserted that Ibas was opposing the expectations of the people of Rivers, adding that the sole administrator was appointed to stabilize security rather than interfere with governance and political structures.
He said “First of all, we think his appointment is illegal and an attack on our constitution.
“What’s worse is that he is taking action to bring the government’s sincerity to address the political situation in River State.”
“The executive acts like an officer he has always been.
“Instead of focusing on security, he appointed a new chief of staff, fired political appointments and prepared to appoint local government administrators.
“It’s obviously not what the people of Rivers expected. They voted for a governor and were simply overturned by illegal political action.”
