Andrew, known on YouTube as the “Desert Drifter” (Desert Drifter), was known as 500,000 fans on YouTube, and died peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, suffering severe brain damage in the January 31 crash.
“Andrew’s spirit is free, surrounded by light and love,” Jenna Spooner, the explorer’s sister, announced on the Caringbridge website.
She told Andrew to walk around the ICU before his death, and staff walked in the corridor to “respect him.”

“Then in the room, friends and family read the Bible, prayed and sang, in the process of eliminating life support and over an hour later. ”
The family said earlier this week they made a “hard decision” after acknowledging their discomfort in late February to remove Andrew from their life support.
Andrew described his video museum as “exploration and adventure with a historical twist”, documenting desert tours and mountaineering for hundreds of thousands of viewers.
The Virginia-born adventurer fell into a tragic involvement in a two-car accident at the end of January when he walked backwards at high speed as he stopped.
The Mesa County coroner’s office in Colorado confirmed to TMZ on Wednesday that Andrew was injured in the crash.

In her message to thousands of supporters, she reflected that he “really lived a fulfilling life.”
His story and influence are not over yet. It’s great to know him in new ways because we’ve seen photos and stories that many people share.
“We look forward to more when we respect our lives.”

The family had previously reported that Andrew was stable but became more noticeably uncomfortable, “procedures such as brushing teeth or adjusting the position on the bed.”
Andrew’s family raised more than $482,000 from Gofundme’s $510,000 target to help his wife Evelyn financially provide medical expenses, food or any other possible expenses.
