Four people were reportedly killed and at least twenty were injured on Tuesday, when an explosion occurred at a store in Talata Mafara Central Market in Zamfara State.
A community member verified the news reporter’s incident during a telephone conversation.
Sources said traders and shoppers fled their lives due to the surprise explosion, which caused panic in the busy market.
“Today, at Tarata Mafara Central Market, an explosion occurred, killing several people and hurting many others.” Sources told the Sahara.
According to reports, a video of the acquisition by the media platform showed that at least 20 people were seriously injured due to the explosion in the central market of Tarata Mafara, mainly traders.
However, the state government and Nigerian police forces have not confirmed the exact cause of the explosion.
However, witnesses told reporters that the explosion originated from a store selling locally made guns, a common business in some parts of northern Nigeria.
Zamfara State has been facing problems of insecurity, including gangsters and kidnapping, which has led to an increase in the distribution of homemade weapons, often used in self-defense.
The incident highlights the dangers associated with unregulated arms trade in local markets.
An attempt to contact Zamfara State Police Chief Yezid Abubakar was unsuccessful. His phone line reportedly said that he had always said “users were busy” on multiple calls Tuesday night, and he has not responded to subsequent text messages or WhatsApp queries.
