At least three people died in the U.S. capital, officials said, and authorities are releasing 81 people believed to be trapped under the ruins of underbuilt high-rises in the city.
Myanmar, one of Asia’s poorest countries, stood out from the civil war triggered by the 2021 military coup. Weak infrastructure makes it insufficient to respond to major natural disasters.
The fragments of the country were pieced together by militias, making it difficult to collect reliable information. The military also regularly cuts communications in conflict areas.
