    • About 16 people were confirmed dead because a bus with passengers exploded along the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway.

    • FRSC spokesperson, Mrs. Okpe, Florence has confirmed this tragic incident

    • The cause of the explosion has been associated with the full cylinders that exploded in the bus.

A bus carrying passengers along the Ogun Expressway exploded about 16 (16) people, while others suffered varying degrees of burns from the explosion.

The Federal Road Safety Force (FRSC) has confirmed that a total of 21 (21) people were on the explosive bus. Through their spokesman, Mrs. Florence Okpe, it was revealed that the bus carries a full gas cylinder, a highly flammable material that could lead to a fatal explosion.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a Mazda bus with plate number KJA 949 YJ, which arrived at Ogun from Ibadan but unfortunately reached the end on Express roads.

According to Mrs. Okpe, the accident occurred at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. At the time of the incident, the victim’s burnt remains were encountered because most of the bodies were burned.

With the rapid intervention of the department’s commander Mr. Akinwumi Fasakin, the remaining injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center in Abeokuta Idi Aba.

Mr. Akinwumi expressed great dissatisfaction with the incident, pointing out that the explosion would not be so huge if the driver had opposed carrying the inflatable cylinder.

“Driver should object to carrying cylinders filled with gas. Highly flammable items should be transported with caution only through designated vehicles driven by trained drivers,” he said.

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun also expressed dissatisfaction with the incident. He also sent a cautious attitude to commercial bus drivers through a statement issued by his special media and strategy adviser Hon. Kayode Akinmade.

He said “This incident is a striking reminder of the potential dangers associated with the transport of flammable materials. As we work hard to cope with the consequences of this tragedy, it is crucial for all stakeholders (drivers, unions and regulators) to collaborate to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

“The safety of passengers must be kept vital and all necessary measures should be taken to protect life on the road. Only through collective efforts and commitment to best practices can the state hope to minimize the risks associated with the transport of dangerous goods.”

He also has the same sympathy with his family members involved in the accident. Meanwhile, two other people allegedly fled the explosion, but Daily Report Nigeria has not confirmed the report that the report has been held online.

Other fatal accidents have shocked the country since this year

The fatal accident in Benin-Auuchi in Edo Prefecture claimed the lives of about 12 passengers when the bus carried the passengers and caught fire after they collided with the truck.

The Eleme multi-tank explosion in Rivers State, surrounding about (5) lives, burning vehicles and materials.

A Niger tanker explosion burned several people, including those who sprinkled fuel from the tanker.

The devastating Enugu tanker explosion claims that the tanker fueled experienced a brake failure while on a mountain road, and 11 (11) is said to live on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

All of this reflects Nigeria’s road safety challenges. These ugly accidents are sure to happen in roles, non-work traffic lights, death trap roads and potholes of illegal transportation, so they are bound to happen. The mindset of the people Nodies. Because most drivers use non-functional brake vehicles on the highway, shaking buses exceed their lifespan, and people will save overflowing fuel and other related issues.

This is a call for leaders and followers to observe road orders, put safety first and protect lives. Security is not the security of the government, it should be the concern of everyone.
