
The West African Examinations Commission (WAEC) released results for the May/June 2025 West African High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Lagos on Monday.
A total of 1,969,313 candidates took the exam, but only 754,545 (38.32%) received at least five mandatory topics, including English and Mathematics. This is a sharp drop of 33.8% from last year’s 72.12%, making it the worst performance in recent history of this WAEC-led school exam. Of the total candidates, 976,787 (49.60%) were male, while 992,526 (50.40%) were female, indicating that more women took the exam. WAEC also announced that candidates sponsored by the state have not paid a review fee and their results will not release their results until their sponsors have fully determined the outstanding fees.
