- Isaac Fayose has criticized plans to roll back electoral reforms, questioning why the government is abandoning systems such as BVAS after spending nearly a trillion naira on electoral reforms.

Isaac Fayose has questioned the Nigerian government’s stance on electoral reform and expressed concern over attempts to remove key components of the voting process despite significant financial investment.
Speaking on the issue, Fayose recalled that billions of naira were spent on electoral reforms in 2019. He added that based on the recommendations of former President Goodluck Jonathan, further reforms were introduced in 2023, including the adoption of the Dual-Mode Voter Authentication System (BVAS) and electronic voting schemes. According to him, an additional £359 billion was reportedly spent on this phase.
Fayose wonders why the authorities want to abandon reforms that have cost the country nearly a trillion naira. He accuses policymakers of deliberately sabotaging the system and believes the debate around electronic voting is manipulated through semantics.
“In 2019, they spent billions on electoral reform. In 2023, Jonathan said let’s adopt BVAS, let’s have electronic voting, and they spent £359 billion again. Why do they want to abandon reforms that they spent nearly a trillion pounds on? We all know what they are doing. They say it’s just transmission and transfer, we are here to correct the English.” Fayose said.

If you claim or accuse, you must prove it with evidence and I will come for you”.
