A second woman died after Asake was smitten at a concert at Brixton Academy.

Gabrielle Hutchinson, 23, died in hospital in the early hours of Monday, December 19, 2022.

Hutchinson was one of the contracted security providers for the event that night.

Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, is the first woman to die after being injured at a concert. She died on Saturday morning, December 17.

A third woman, 21, remains fighting for her life in hospital.

Metropolitan Police said the three women were in the south London building when they suffered serious injuries during a crush.

Eight people were taken to hospital following the incident on Thursday evening, December 15.

Police said they were called to reports of a “large number of people trying to force their way into the venue” where Afrobeat artist Asake was performing.

The Nigerian musician was forced to abandon the show after playing three songs and issued a statement saying his “heart is with the injured”.

Met Police Chief Constable Colin Wingrove said: “Devastating news is that a second person has died following Thursday’s events.

“I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Gabriel’s family during this unimaginably difficult time.”
