Gabriel Afolayan has revealed that he chose to become an actor out of a personal mission, not just from growing up in a family well-known for the entertainment industry.
In a recent discussion with a TV channel, Afolayan spoke about the pressures he faces as part of a famous showbiz family. He stressed that despite the expectations that come with being a well-off family, his decision to act was driven by genuine passion rather than family pressure.
He described acting as not just a profession, but a profession that he felt he was destined to pursue.
“Yeah. I would say that. Because it’s one thing to be inspired. It’s another thing to have your own heart. And, because we’re just, I think we’re only six people in this industry. And we have a whole bunch of other kids who are interested in completely different things. If, really, you know, that’s the case, they might as well be the same.
“I think that’s what a few of us who are in this industry do. I think that’s what we also want to do. Whether our dads were involved or not. Because I felt very strongly from a young age that this was what I wanted, even without having anything to do with my dad or meeting my dad or seeing anyone else. I think it was just intrinsic.
“It’s just inside of me. We watched a lot of movies growing up. All of these things trigger your own intuition. So, for me, I would say, actually, it’s something that I love to do. Trust me. In another life, we probably wouldn’t have known how to do it before in that particular life. So, to me, the life that we’re in now, I think it’s more of a job.” he said.
Gabriel Afolayan admits it can be difficult to meet the expectations associated with his family’s famous legacy, but he remains guided by his ambition and sense of purpose.
He emphasized that despite the pressures that come with being part of a famous acting family, his acting journey is driven by his personal passion and a mission he feels compelled to follow.
“It’s a big burden… because one thing is the legacy. And then the other thing is what’s attractive about you as a person? That requires a lot of discussion because they already know what your father did.
“What about you? Who are you? We are, we’re almost constantly proving ourselves and making sure the legacy is still intact. And also letting people know, okay, we come from this family, but this is also our own mission,” he said.
