Inah Lucas, a Brazilian nun, held the title of the world’s oldest man earlier this year at the age of 116, and was recognized for his extraordinary life span in just a few months.
The longevity researcher and her religious order, the congregation of the Tyres sisters, was based in Porto Alegre, where they spent their final years. In their message, the order respects her memory and thanks her for her “dedication and dedication” in decades of religious service.
Lucas was born on June 8, 1908 and gradually became the focus of global attention in January 2025, when she was officially appointed the oldest person because of the death of Tomiko Itika of Japan, who was also 116 years old.

In 1934, Lucas took her religious oath and joined the monastery during the period between the two world wars. Her faith and service life, coupled with her age, has attracted admiration from religious groups and longevity experts.
Longeviquest, an organization that tracks people in the Supercenter, points out that Lucas’s life is difficult to start. They shared: “Many people doubt she will survive.”
Despite these early challenges, Lucas lived until the second century, often attributed her longevity to her deep religious beliefs. She once said, “He is the secret of life. He is the secret of everything.” She refers to the faith in God.
In 2018, Pope Francis paid tribute to her with the blessing of the pope on her 110th birthday. The pope died last week at the age of 88.
Although Lucas has long celebrated her birthday on May 27, longevity researchers then verified her official date of birth as June 8, 1908.
According to longeviquest, Lucas is the 15th largest proven person in record history and the second largest nun of all time, Lucile Randon, who passed 118 years in 2023.
According to Grg and Longeviquest Records, the title of the world’s oldest man now belongs to Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old woman from Surrey, England.
