    • rightFr Chidi Angelo Unegbu, a Nigerian Catholic priest, criticized the public attention given to trending topics on social media, such as an in-flight fight between a “very black man” and Mr Jollof.
    • He said in a Facebook post that these viral incidents were deliberately promoted as a “diversionary tactic” to prevent Nigerians from discussing and solving serious real-world problems in the country, such as security issues and banditry.

Nigerian Catholic priest Chidi Angelo Unegbu has publicly stated that certain widely trending topics on Nigerian social media, including the recent physical altercation on a plane between social critic “Very Dark Man” (VDM) and Mr. Jolov, were deliberate distractions.

Father Unegbu believes that the spread of these viral incidents is an attempt to prevent public attention and discussion of serious real-life problems in the country.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday, the priest addressed the social media concerns directly:

“It appears that some people are deliberately promoting these diversionary tactics on Nigerian social media to prevent people from discussing the real issues in the country. Today, the battle is being fought on airplanes. Stop being fooled by these distractions,” he wrote.
