The Ogun State Government has expressed its deep condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the victims of the tragic car accident that nearly killed world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua on Monday.
The fatal accident occurred along the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway within the Makun axis of Ogun State and tragically claimed the lives of two persons. According to reports, Anthony Joshua and three others were traveling from Lagos to Sagamu when the incident occurred.
Preliminary reports indicate Two male foreigners died on the spot. Their remains were later deposited at Livewell Mortuary in Sagamu. Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were immediately rescued by the convoy’s security personnel and taken to hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The SUV carrying passengers was said to have crashed into a stationary truck on the highway. While the severely damaged vehicle was evacuated to the Saga Mutu Motor Transport Department (MTD) office, efforts are still underway to tow the involved truck to the same location for a full investigation.
The Ogun State Government described the incident as very unfortunate and painful, especially as precious lives were lost, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical treatment.
Therefore, motorists should take extra care and strictly abide by traffic rules, especially during festive periods when vehicle traffic is usually high. Road safety officials and other security agencies have also been asked to step up surveillance and enforcement efforts across the state to ensure safety of lives and property.
Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones in this tragic event, which the nation considers a devastating loss. As we collectively mourn, we pray for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and for the speedy recovery of the injured. May Almighty God grant the families left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
