Former militant leader Tompolo donated N10 billion to the Delta National Security Trust Fund.

Tompolo, a former Niger Delta militant leader turned pipeline security contractor, has donated 10 billion naira ($6 million) through his company Tantita to a newly launched security trust fund at Delta State University aimed at equipping local forces to fight crime and oil theft.

The video captures Tompolo’s speech before officials and reporters, as well as his earlier visit to Governor Oborefu Warri, his first public appearance in more than a decade, highlighting the growing role of the private sector in Nigeria’s underfunded security, with Tandita’s multibillion-dollar federal contracts starting in 2022.

The responses reflected public surprise at the amount, equivalent to 0.5% of Delta’s 2025 budget, and skepticism about the source of funding tied to the amnesty deal and oil surveillance, highlighting the blurred lines between former militants and the governance of the country in the oil-rich region.
