Legendary Green Hawk Captain and Super Hawks coach Stephen Chukwu was already d at the age of 74! ed.
Former teammate and football icon Dr. Olusegun Odegbami announced his death on social media.
“I just got a message that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my arms friend and teammate, one of the greatest football players in Nigerian football history, former captain and coach of the Nigerian national football team, is over. Family.”
Chukwu affectionately called the “Chairman” and is the backbone of Nigerian football and is known for his contributions on and off the court. He captained the Green Eagles, who won the 1980 African Cup of Nations, and later continued to coach the national team, including leading Nigeria to the 2004 African Cup of Nations semi-finals.
Back in 2021, rumors about Chukwu’s death spread widely, prompting him to publicly refute these claims during his 70th birthday celebration.
The reason for his death has not been made public.
