The attackers reportedly rushed into the farm near Ogbes in the local government area of northern Acre on Thursday, March 13, at about 11 p.m., and fired occasionally, before driving away the victims.
Family sources confirmed that the kidnappers have demanded the release of 300 million N30 million blackmail. A close-up source said friends and family have started donating to ensure their freedom.
The incident was reported at the ALA Elofosan Police Department, but Ondo State Police spokesman Funmilayo Odunlami did not respond to comment.
Meanwhile, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa vowed to get rid of the criminals. Aiyedatiwa addressed a stakeholder meeting in Akure, stressing that his government does not allow Ondo State to be a safe haven for criminals.
“We will not allow Ondo State to be a safe haven for criminals. Although we welcome all law-abiding Nigerians who want to live and conduct legal business here, we will not tolerate individuals who use our forests as hiding places for illegal activities such as kidnapping and other crimes,” he said.
The governor urges traditional rulers, community leaders and rural leaders to stay alert and work with security agencies.
“Whenever you notice any suspicious movement, you will immediately remind the security agent. If you see anything, say something. Safety is everyone’s collective responsibility,” he added.
Aiyedatiwa further stated that he would meet with traditional rulers to address the state’s growing security issues.
