He dumped gasoline at me, but neighbor saved my life - a divorce-seeking woman tells FCT court husband how to try to get her to shoot

A businesswoman Woye Ella prayed to the FCT customary court in Garki in Abuja on Tuesday to dissolve her marriage in an attempt to murder her husband’s attempt to catch fire.

Ella’s prayer is contained in a divorce petition she filed with her husband in court.

According to the petitioner, her husband usually overreacts.

She thinks sometimes her husband becomes very hostile and chases her with dangerous objects like screwdrivers and knives.

“It was the gasoline he dumped on me that caught me, and it was my neighbor who saved my life that day.”

“He was overwhelmed by our neighbors and was taken to a nearby police station where he was detained for four days until his father came from the village to intervene.

“When he was asked about the reasons for his behavior, he could not mention anything tangible.”

Ella also told the court that she eventually moved out of the house for fear of being killed by her estranged spouse.

She prays that the court orders the husband to evacuate the apartment they live in before leaving.

The petitioner also claimed that she was the owner of the property.

“I bought this land myself and built my own house,” she said.

The defendant was a ceramic tile, only identified by his name, Joseph, but denied all charges from his wife.

Chairman Judge Festus Enomhonse adjourned the matter until February 24.
