Former Chief Magistrate Ejike George, Rivers State, sheds light on the reasons for his resignation from the Rivers State judiciary.

Naija News Recall that President Bra Tinub announced the appointment of Deputy Admiral Ibok-Eber Ibas (Rtd.), March 18, 2025, announced the sole executive of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

Tinubu also suspended Governor Ngozi ODU Lieutenant Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the Rivers State Capitol, citing Article 305 of the 1999 Constitution, saying he no longer sat down in the river without taking action to escalate.

In an interview on Channel Television’s political plan today on Thursday, April 17, 20225, George opposes President Tinob’s decision, saying the tension in River State does not guarantee a moratorium on Forbala and others and the introduction of military-style rules.

George said of his resignation that he was not trained to prompt from military administrators and found it difficult to adapt to the situation.

He said “It’s not fair to the people of Rivers. I just said I can’t get instructions from military administrators. I can’t.

“My reason for resigning is simply because I cannot adapt to the military ruling that will be introduced for the only administrator reasons.

“As a magistrate, our court is the court of summary jurisdiction. Our lawsuit is not guided by the constitution of the country. In this case, it means I will pick up the order from the employer of the Chief Justice of Rivers.

“In turn, we take some level of instructions from the governor; that would be the elected governor, as the chief security officer of the country.

“I just said I can’t get instructions from military administrators. I can’t. During my entire 16 years of serving in the River State judiciary, I’ve received instructions from civilian administrators. I don’t know how I’m going to adapt and now start taking instructions from military administrators. I think it’s weird.

“The judiciary didn’t take us with any training on how to work with military administrators. I don’t know how my colleagues will respond until I’ve done this. So, unfortunately for me, I’m not the kind of person who can shut up.
