    • Victor Boniface has looked back on his time with the Nigeria Super Eagles and admitted that despite his contributions to the team, he struggled to score.
    • The Bayer Leverkusen striker said it was still a dream come true to represent his country, adding that criticism does not define him.
    • He also discussed his failed AC Milan move, expressed his love for Germany and dismissed social media criticism, saying his posts were harmless.
    • Boniface stressed his gratitude for a journey filled with resilience and belief and vowed to continue making fans proud in the Bundesliga.

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has opened up about his time at the Nigeria Super Eagles, admitting that despite his hard work, the goals weren’t living up to expectations.

“My performance with the national team was not good in terms of goals, although there were a few games where I didn’t perform well,” he said in an interview with sports journalist Omar Akatuba.

“My biggest dream as a footballer was to represent my country and I achieved that and I’m grateful for that. Because it didn’t mean I was doing well with the national team, but it doesn’t mean I’m a bad player.”

Boniface also responded to rumors that his move to AC Milan had failed, saying: “When the Milan deal didn’t happen, I was just relaxing with my friends. It happens all the time in football. I love Germany. I really do.”

Speaking about the criticism of his performance, he said, “I missed a lot of games but still scored eight goals. I don’t understand why that turned into a bad season.”

Reflecting further on his journey, he said: “I come from humble beginnings. I’ve been through serious injuries that could have ended my career, so I thank God every day. It’s been a blessing to be here.”

Responding to criticism of his social media profile, he said: “I just post interesting things. If people make it a big issue, that’s their choice. My posts are not hurting anyone. When I stopped posting they said I must be going through something. They still complain when I post. “

Boniface points out from his current experience, “We have a great connection here. It feels like home,” adding, “I had offers from other countries, even from England, but I chose to stay in Germany. I love it here and I want to make the fans proud.”

Boniface is currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen to Werder Bremen for the 2025/26 season.
