Lagos State Police Command has begun investigating the death of a newly married man, Abdulmujid Igbamitayo Oduga, while Ikota Police Department in Aha District of the state Detained by police.
The deceased allegedly had misunderstandings with his female neighbor, which led to his arrest and detention on police post on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
The family of the deceased claimed that Odga suffered severe torture during his detention, resulting in his D3ATH.
They also accused police of not allowing him to contact his family during his detention.
A family member @OmoiyAcele raised the alert in a post posted on X last weekend, with police saying Oduga’s body abandoned in morgues in the state’s EPE area.
He revealed that the deceased got married four months ago.
“My cousin, the late Abdulmujid Igbamitayo Oduga, was murdered by @policeng just because of the misunderstanding between him and his neighbors. He was in Ajiwe The Ikota police station of the police station died, located under Ajeezat in Ajah. The body is stored on the EPE,” he wrote.
“We urge Nigerian police to help our family investigate the matter to get a clear understanding of the issue and to get to know the specific person who killed our beloved son, who just had his wedding four months ago.”
In a statement Wednesday, February 19, the headquarters spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the police and the complainant.
Hundeyin also noted that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Oduga’s death and to take necessary actions.
“The investigation will begin thereafter. The Yaba State Criminal Investigation Department is currently investigating police and complainants. At the same time, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, and further action will be taken afterwards,” PPRO said.
