The Lagos State Independent Election Commission (LASIEC) has officially arranged for the State Council elections on July 12.

The announcement was made on Friday by Lasiec Public Affairs Director Tope Ojo in a statement issued in Lagos.

Naija News Ojo reported that the election will determine 57 council president positions and 376 seats for parliament in Lagos State. If reruns are necessary, it will be held on July 19.

By issuing election notices, LASIEC has begun preparing for the election. The election will cover all 20 local governments, 37 LCDA and 376 wards across the state.

Ojo also confirmed that parties must visit Lasiec headquarters to obtain nomination forms for their candidates. A key meeting with all registered political parties is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

“Election guidelines will be released on April 17,” Ojo added that the next step in the election process was outlined.

The campaign and rally will begin on April 18 and until July 9, providing candidates with plenty of time to interact with voters. In addition, nomination forms submitted by “alternative” and “single candidates” must be submitted between June 18 and June 25.

LASIEC Chairman Bola Okikiolu-Gighile (RTD) reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensure fair, free and credible elections. He promised that a level playing field for all political parties throughout the election process.

Okikiolu-Gighile also urged political parties and aspiring people to strictly abide by the election schedule, emphasizing that the integrity of the election process depends on the compliance of all parties involved.
