A Lagos woman, Osarobo Odigie, has filed legal action against popular TikTok anchor Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Pele, accusing him of defamation, online harassment and invasion of privacy in the break room.
In a pre-action letter dated March 10, 2026 and signed by Bola Osineye of FA Garrick & Co., the plaintiff’s attorney accused the influencer of publishing against his client.
The letter stated that the incident occurred in the early morning of January 6, 2026 at the Folixxx Lounge along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State.
“Our customer showed up at the Folixxx Lounge … for the purpose of purchasing food. While we were standing at the counter/cashier area, our customer was suddenly startled by a loud outburst behind her,” the letter reads.
After Audigi walked away from Peller because of the noise, he confronted her and demanded to know why she had stepped aside, the lawyer claimed.
“You approached her aggressively and instructed her to ‘shut up’. When she asked you to moderate in a public place, you immediately started hurling insults including but not limited to Yoruba expletives like ‘Oloriburuku’, ‘Omo Ale’ and ‘Ashawo’,” the letter read.
The law firm said the comments were “untrue, derisory and defamatory” and were used publicly with the aim of humiliating its client.
They further claim that Peller recorded the confrontation on his cellphone without her consent and later shared the footage on multiple social media platforms.
“You further escalated the situation by taking out your mobile phone and using it to record our client without their consent,” the letter added. “You then posted the video on your Snapchat, WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and other social media platforms, causing public ridicule of our client.”
The lawyer claimed that due to the influencer’s large online following, the video went viral, attracting thousands of comments and allegedly leading to harassment and cyberbullying against his client.
“Due to your large online presence and attention as a streamer and public influencer, the video went viral almost immediately… prompting thousands of comments, many of which reiterated and amplified your defamatory statements about her,” the letter reads.
The claimant also claimed that the online exposure resulted in damage to her reputation, emotional distress and threats to her safety.
“Our client suffered severe emotional distress and developed a genuine fear for his safety,” the attorneys wrote.
The claimant therefore seeks compensation totaling N395 million. This includes N200 million as compensation for the allegedly defamatory publication, N1 million for emotional trauma and reputational damage, and N750,000 for additional distress and suffering caused by alleged cyberbullying and public threats.
The legal team is also demanding N20 million to cover legal fees and related expenses.
In addition to monetary damages, the attorneys are demanding that Peller immediately cease further posting of the video, remove the content from all of his social media platforms, and issue a public apology.
According to the letter, the apology must be published on his social media platforms and two national newspapers, PUNCH and The Guardian, and acknowledges that the comments were “false, malicious and harmful” to the claimant’s reputation.
“You are required to issue a clear and unequivocal public apology to our client on all platforms where the defamatory content was published,” the lawyers said.
They also asked influencers to notify third-party blogs and platforms that may have forwarded the video and ensure that it is removed within seven days.
Lawyers warned that failure to comply within the required deadlines would result in the initiation of legal proceedings.
“If you fail, refuse or neglect to comply… our clients will have no further recourse against you to pursue appropriate legal proceedings against you,” the letter states.
The lawsuit follows a highly publicized confrontation between Peller and the woman at a Lagos restaurant on Jan. 6.
Peller publicly apologized to the woman on January 9 after the video sparked widespread criticism online. In the apology video, he admitted his reaction was out of character and expressed regret for his actions during the altercation.
