    • After the ICC T20I ranking reorganization, Nigerian women fell to sixth in Africa.
    • Nigeria’s slideshow in the global cricket rankings blamed on inactivity and missed matches.
    • Kwibuka Tournament provides Nigerian women’s cricket team with the opportunity to recover.

The ranking of the Nigerian women’s cricket team has taken a hit, dropping from 26th to 29th in the newly released International Cricket Commission (ICC) Women’s T20I rankings, according to Punch Sports Extra.

This decline puts Nigeria in sixth place among African countries and now lags South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Namibia and Tanzania into mainland points.

Reasons for the decline in ranking

The decline in Nigeria’s status is largely due to the recent lack of international activity.

The cancellation of the annual National Women’s Invitational further limits their chances of earning ranking points.

A chance to rebound in the Kwibuka Championship

Hopefully the team will compete in the Ubka Memorial Championships in Rwanda later this month as they will lose hope.

The match offers opportunities to recover lost opportunities in the Nigerian Women’s Cricket Ranking and rebuild yourself in the best team in Africa.

    Global Women’s T20I Ranking Update

Australia continues to rank globally after the ICC’s annual update, extending its lead from second-place England to 20 points.

Nothing has changed in the top eight women’s teams in the world.

Highlights of the World Cup and Series

    • Australia’s dominance despite World Cup withdrawal

Although not two points were scored in the 2024 final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, it reached 299 points thanks to the emphasis on 3-0 series by New Zealand and England.

India remains third with 260 points.

Championship champion New Zealand rose to 253 points.

South Africa, second place, climbed to 243 points.

    Emerging teams show commitment

Sierra Leone and Kuwait made the biggest improvement in the rankings, scoring seven points per point and improving three positions to 34th and 46th respectively.

The identity of the Nigerian men’s cricket team

While the focus remains on the women’s side, Nigerian men’s cricket team remained stable at 36th in the world, making it the seventh-highest team in Africa.
