Nigeria News Nalin According to reports, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Co., Ltd. has explicitly denied the recent claim that more than 200 million liters of premium car spirit (PMS) were imported in February 2025.
The company described the allegations as “completely false, unfounded and reckless statements of fact.”
NNPC Limited in a statement signed by its spokesman Olufemi Soneye, which attributes the report to “lazy and unprofessional journalism” or “economic saboteurs misunderstood the deliberate sponsorship attempt to mislead the public.”
“NNPC Limited has no import single-liter PM in 2025,” the statement said. “We do not control the import activities of private marketers and do not issue import licenses. Attributing all PMS imports to NNPC is not only misleading, but also thorough Deceptive and irresponsible journalism ignores the basic fact-checking principles.”
The company further clarified that although it has not been involved in PMS imports this year, there are no legal barriers to prevent it from doing so if the situation requires such action.
“As the most important energy company in Nigeria, we have a responsibility to ensure energy security. In the event of any supply shortage, NNPC Limited reserves the full right and responsibility to intervene and import to stabilize the market.”
NNPC Ltd denounced the spread of “so huge misinformation” and pointed out that it distorted market reality, misled key stakeholders and caused “severe damage to the public.”
The company vowed to take legal measures to target those responsible for creating and circulating false reports about their business.
“We will not tolerate the spread of false and malicious reports designed to undermine our reputation,” the statement stressed.
The company urges media practitioners to determine accuracy and adhere to established fact-checking principles when reporting sensitive industry-related matters.
