    Oxford Center for Islamic Studies scholarships are currently open. In this article, we will explain the OCIS scholarship in detail, its benefits and the step-by-step application process.

    These scholarships are established by the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies to enable graduates to undertake research of benefit to the Muslim world.

    The Oxford Center for Islamic Studies is a recognized independent center at the University of Oxford. It was founded in 1985 to encourage academic research on Islam and the Islamic world. The center provides a meeting point for learning from the West and the Islamic world.

    At Oxford, it contributes to multi- and interdisciplinary studies of the Islamic world. Beyond Oxford, its role is enhanced through a network of international academic links. For more information, see the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies website.

    Scholarship Scope

    OCIS scholarships provide recipients with the following benefits:

    100% funding for course fees and living expenses (minimum £15,285)

    Eligibility Criteria for Oxford Center for Islamic Studies Scholarships

    Eligible for OCIS Scholarship, Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Required language: English
    • Eligible countries: You must be:
      • Ordinarily resident in the UK and from the Muslim community (preference will be given to those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds), or
      • A national and resident of one of the following countries in Asia and Africa:

    Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Albania, Indonesia, Palestine, Algeria, Iran, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Senegal, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Sierra Leone, Benin, Kuwait, Somalia, Brunei Darussalam, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Lebanon, Suriname, Cameroon, Liberia Libya, Syrian Arab Republic, Chad, Malaysia, Tajikistan, Comoros, Maldives, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Tunisia, Djibouti, Mauritania, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Turkmenistan, Gabon, Mozambique, Uganda, The Gambia, Niger, United Arab Emirates, Guinea, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Guyana, Oman, Yemen

    • You must apply to start a new full-time Master’s or PhD program at Oxford.
    • Upon completion of the course, you should plan to return to your home country.
    • Scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit.
    • You should intend to conduct research in an area that originates from or is related to the Islamic tradition, or that is relevant to and/or of benefit to the Muslim world.
    • This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma programmes, part-time courses or non-foundation programmes.
    • Candidates holding deferred offers for 2023-24 will not be considered for this scholarship.

    How to apply for the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies Scholarship?

    1. You must submit your application for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford by the relevant deadline in January 2022, choose your specific course from the options below here.
