After receiving treatment at the Lima Clinic, Peruvian authorities launched an investigation and threatened sanctions after pop star Shakira’s medical records leaked on social media. Officials warn that the clinic could face a fine of up to $430,000.
The 48-year-old Colombian singer was taken to the emergency room for a belly condition due to a belly condition, causing her to cancel her scheduled concert on Sunday, February 16. Shortly after her hospitalization, details of her medical report surfaced online, sparking public anger and prompting a formal investigation.
A spokesman for Peru’s National Health Services Regulator confirmed that the investigation was underway and officials met with clinic representatives to discuss the violation. The process is expected to take 25 days.
The Delgado clinic where Shakira was treated regarded the leak as a “serious moral violation” and announced internal disciplinary action against the person in charge.
Despite the incident, Shakira resumed her world tour and performed in Lima on Monday night. She expressed her gratitude to her fans for their “love and care”.
Her tour, titled Women stop crying (Women cried no longer), shortly after winning the Grammy Best Latin Pop Album in Rio de Janeiro. The singer dedicated the award to immigrants in the United States, facing deportation from President Donald Trump.
With over 90 million records, Shakira remains one of the most famous Latin artists of all time.
