President Tinubu has issued N50 billion guild settlement allowances to ASUU and NASU.

Nigeria News Nalin The report said that the Nigerian federal government has announced a payment of 50 billion guilds to the academic and non-academic unions of the federal universities to resolve the unpaid allowance.

Education Minister Dr. Maruf Alausa disclosed this in a statement Wednesday by Ministry spokesman Folasade Boriowo.

He said the release of the funds was to fulfill President Bora Tinubu’s commitment to the union.

According to the statement, the move “is another testament to Tinubu’s firm commitment to fundamentally transforming the education sector in Nigeria. It reflects the government’s bold determination to transform the country from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy through strategic investments in education, infrastructure and human capital.”

The minister said: “This intervention is not only a financial transaction, it is a reaffirmation of our President’s belief in the capacity of youth in Nigeria and the important role that academic and non-academic personnel play in nurturing them. Let our children not be ignored in school. My commitment to institutions will soon become a thing of the past.”

Recalling that the university-based academic union has long been in connection with past government requirements such as failure to release bonuses.

In the 2025 national budget, the federal government allocated N3.52 trillion education, accounting for 7.3% of the total budget.
