    • The price of imported rice in Nigeria has dropped from 85,000 – ₦90,000 to between 56,000 – 62,000 per 50kg bag, causing a mixing reaction online.
    • Although some supporters of President Tinob praised the development, critics argue that prices are still too high compared to previous administrations.

Social media has attracted popularity after reports show that prices of imported rice fell in some Nigerian markets.

A market survey on Thursday showed that the 50 kg bags previously sold were sold for 85,000 –₦90,000 and now ranged from 56,000 –₦62,000.

The news sparked some supporters of President Bra Tinub, who praised his administration. On X, @unclepamilerin wrote: “The price of rice has finally dropped and the minimum wage is now available to buy a bag. Step by step, we get there. Nigeria will work throughout our lives.”

Another user @mz_tosyn added: “I said the rice is 57k, and in the 🤦🏰‍♀️ I mentioned, people are still arguing. I bought 3 bags yesterday and with someone who is still collecting the allowance.”

However, critics argue that rice is still expensive compared to previous years, and it is too early to see the celebration.

    See some reactions below:

“Young people like this are the reason why the political class will always go in the way of corrupt and bad leadership,” Mista_sean added.

@smiling_dictato noted: “This guy is a big fool, not talking about the stupid taxes imposed on us every two days. Yehyheh’s minimum wage can now buy a bag of rice because you only have a bag of rice that you can chop in a month.”

@uptownoflagos argued: “You are celebrating a month’s minimum wage that can buy a bag of rice now? 10 years ago, the minimum wage could buy 3 bags of rice, transportation, feed and 5% savings. Are we playing in this country?”

Similarly, @pdprepublic wrote: “APC influencers try to convince Nigerians Tinubu to perform well.”

@_kamor questioned: “So….. Cooking in cold water?!
