    • The Rivers State House of Assembly has begun impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, escalating a long-standing political crisis.
    • The move could lead to his removal from office if lawmakers gain the necessary support.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has launched impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminarayi Fubala, a move that marks a new phase in the long-running political crisis in the oil-rich state.

The process began Thursday as members of the state Legislature began formal proceedings that could lead to the governor’s removal from office. If the motion succeeds, Tomihara will be removed from office by the state assembly.

The impeachment motion follows months of tension between the governor and parts of Rivers’ political establishment. Previous attempts to oust Tomihara began in 2025 when a gross misconduct notice was issued alleging that he acted in a way that lawmakers considered undermined the constitution and frustrated legislative functions.

The crisis has at times captured national attention. In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending both the governor and the House of Representatives amid an escalating standoff between the executive and legislative branches of government.

In other news… Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduahan has praised Nollywood actress Regina Daniels after she decided to share her recent drug test results online.

The Nigerian congressman joined other fans in the comments section and wrote:

“Your journey is your own and I’m so proud of you, honey.”

Regina Daniels made headlines on Wednesday, January 7, when she posted a video in which she revealed that she took a drug test and the results came back negative.

The mother-of-two, who is currently overseas, shared the clean results with fans and thanked them for their support.

While Regina admitted to using Molly in the past, she clarified that the test wasn’t about defending her reputation, but about how her children would view her in the future.

“Taking this test isn’t just about clearing my name; it’s about giving my children something priceless so that when they are old enough, they will know that their mother never did drugs.” she said in part in the video.
