Senegal players sprint to celebrate after the final whistle as Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat. Teranga Lions take second place African Cup of Nations headline on Sunday (January 18).

The regular game ended dramatically and then went into overtime. Morocco were awarded a late penalty, prompting the Senegalese players to leave in protest before being persuaded to return. Senegal, which will host the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, won in pouring rain to claim its second continental title. They have now won two of the last three Africa Cup of Nations titles and are set to win the title in 2022.
As the stadium emptied of gloomy Moroccan fans, the reality of the hosts’ long wait for a first continental title in half a century began to set in. The search will now continue until at least 2027, when the Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
