Tanzanians raid politicians' gas stations and steal free cooking gas during election protests

Tensions in Tanzania continued to rise following the disputed presidential election on October 29, with angry citizens in Mwanza reportedly attacking a petrol station owned by a prominent CCM politician.

According to eyewitnesses, crowds stormed the station in broad daylight, broke into storage areas and snatched cooking gas bottles. Videos circulating online show people They laughed and cheered as they filled containers and loaded gas bottles onto motorcycles and carts.

The incident, which comes amid ongoing protests over alleged electoral fraud, has become a symbol of growing frustration among the political elite. Many locals claimed the raid was not just an act of looting but a “people’s reward” for what they said were years of oppression and economic hardship.

Authorities condemned the act as a crime and vowed to restore order, while police patrols were stepped up across Mwanza to prevent further unrest.

As the situation intensified, the moment sparked mixed reactions across Africa – with some calling it a cry for justice and others warning it could plunge the country into deeper chaos.
