    • Innocent Idibia, known as 2Face or 2Baba, owes his music career to his song “African Queen.”
    • The song holds great personal meaning for him.
    • “The African Queen” brought him fame and success, but also challenges.

Legendary Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Face or 2Baba, has admitted that his iconic song “African Queen” played a key role in his music career, describing it as a song that deeply connects with him on a personal level.

2Face revealed in a recent episode of Entertainment & Lifestyle that while the hit single brought him huge fame and success, it also brought some challenges.

“‘The African Queen’ was a huge blessing, but it also became a problem for me. Still, I’m grateful for everything,” he said.

The release of African Queen in 2004 brought 2Face international recognition, winning him prestigious awards such as BET, MTV Europe and MOBO, making him one of the first African artists to achieve this feat.

Despite its success, the song has long been surrounded by controversy. 2Face’s former Plantashun Boiz bandmate Blackface has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song.

In a past interview, 2Face clarified that “African Queen” was written in collaboration with his former bandmates, but strongly denied any accusations of theft.

More than two decades after its release, the song continues to stir controversy, especially after Billboard named it “the greatest Afrobeat song of all time” in August 2025.
