The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt will announce its ruling on April 16, 2025, involving a case filed by the River State Labor Party (LP) involving alleged violations of the Speaker of the River State Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 26 others.

Naija News Reported, the chairman judge Emmanuel Obile, Legal representatives of both parties postponed the lawsuit in a final written comment in a new application by senior Nigeria (SAN) advocate Ken Njemanze (on behalf of Amaewhule and others).

Njemanze asked the court to amend their previous motion to file a defection lawsuit against Amaewhule and others, instead seeking to dismiss the case.

He backed the request by citing a recent Supreme Court ruling that clarified the legitimacy of lawmakers, believing that not dismissing the lawsuit would be effective against the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Although Njemanze’s verbal demands are not opposed by Labor lawyer Clifford Chuku, he insists that the issue of defection is a secondary issue in the Supreme Court’s ruling. Therefore, he urged the court to reject the defendant’s application.

According to the Daily Mail, Chuku also pointed out that the affidavit submitted by the defendant was signed by a lawyer and his name was included in the lawsuit, which he believed violated legal standards. He called on the court to consider the case based on its substantive merits.

After hearing the debate between the two sides, Judge Obile arranged a ruling on the April 16, 2025 motion.
