On Tuesday, February 25, Aminat Lawal, the sister of abducted National Youth Service Corps member Rofiat Lawal, kidnapped along the Benin-Ore Expressway, claiming that her rofiat was handed over to the driver.
Aminat told Punch on Thursday, February 27 that Rofiat was kidnapped while returning to her main mission in Oyo State.
Aminat said her sister narrated that the driver teleported them from Benin to ore, the kidnappers emerged from nearby bushes and then took them away when the driver zoomed in.
She added that when the kidnappers contacted Rofiat’s family, they demanded that her 25 million ransom be freed, they begged them not to pay, but after a few round trips, they lowered the demand to 5m.
Aminat told Punch: “She contacted us Tuesday and told us she was kidnapped and she said the driver of the car she boarded was the one who left them behind where she kidnapped with other passengers.
“When we talked to the kidnappers, they asked us to bring N25M and we told them we didn’t have that money. She was the one who sponsored herself in school. They reduced the ransom to N5M.”
A friend of the victim, known as Agbakwara, posted an alert on Facebook on Wednesday, February 26, about Rofiat’s kidnapping, saying Rofiat has struggled for life, working through a university through a job at Dufill Company in Benin, where parents and parents’ privileges are less privileged and cannot be afforded.
Meanwhile, the family has resorted to crowdfunding to raise ransoms as requested by the kidnapper.
