    President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC), as the president’s adviser and coordinator for president’s livestock reform.

    JEGA revealed that the committee believes that both ranch and open grazing can coexist in the short term until there is sufficient awareness and proper infrastructure to enhance the adoption of comprehensive ranchs.

    The committee noted that it would be counterproductive to immediately stop open grazing as a traditional herder.

    Furthermore, the Committee recommends that Nigeria adopt technology in livestock production.

    In addition, in October 2024, President Tinub Expressed confidence In the potential of the newly established livestock development ministry, it can achieve “grace from grass.”

    His remarks came during a two-day consultative workshop on livestock reform in Nigeria, held at the Presidential Villa of Abuja.

    President Tinubu stressed the growing interest of foreign investors in exploring opportunities within the industry in front of more than 350 stakeholders in the livestock industry.
